Tear Trough

Rejuvenation

Under eye

hollowing

The tear trough is a hollowing sometimes found under the eyes. It runs from the inner aspect of the eye (near the nose), to the middle of the under eye.

This hollowing can often create a shadow that gives the appearance of dark circles under the eyes and makes you look 'tired'.

At The Rejuvenation Doctors we use Teosyal Redensity II, which is a specialised hyaluronic acid filler designed specifically for treating the under eye area. It also contains 8 amino acids, 3 minerals, 2 anti-oxidants and vitamin B6 for maximum rejvenation.

Hyaluronic acid is a molecule that is made naturally by the body and found in the skin and joints, and its function is to provide volume and hydration.

There are many reasons for dark circles under the eyes.

As mentioned above, a depression caused by the tear trough ligament can cast a shadow and make the skin appear dark.

Natural pigmentation is another cause, these dark circles have usually been present from a very young age. Adding fillers will not help in these cases.

That's why it is extremely important to have a thorough consultation and examination with a medical professional who can advise you of the treatment options available to you.

Dark Circles

I alway looked so tired, and was fed up of the dark circles under my eyes.

I'm very happy with the results of my tear trough treatment, and I was surprised by how

comfortable the procedure was, given it was close to my eye.

FAQs

How long do tear trough fillers take to carry out?

The procedure itself takes less around 30-45 minutes, but this is after a thorough consultation.

How long do tear trough fillers last?

Approximately 12 months depending on your body's ability to break down the filler.

We have found that people who smoke and use sun beds tend to metabolise filler quicker than others.

Do tear trough fillers hurt?

We do everything we can to make the procedure as comfortable as possible. We mainly use cannulas for this area (which is a blunt metal device that delicately pushes its way to where it needs to be instead of cutting, like needles do).

We also apply numbing cream to the areas we are going to inject.

Are tear trough fillers safe?

We only use the highest quality hyaluronic acid fillers from the most reputable brands.

Hyaluronic acid is made and broken down in the body naturally, and has been used in aesthetics for around 35 years.

Any needle entering the skin, means there is a risk of bruising and infection, but as doctors we know the importance of carrying out procedures in a sterile environment to reduce that risk.

Less commonly the area can suffer from excess swelling, this may respond to a firm massage, this is less likely with the specialised filler we use in the tear trough.

It is very rare, but there have been cases of filler being injected into arteries and this can lead to skin death and blindness.

A drug called Hyaluronidase can be injected to dissolve the filler and unblock the artery, and is successful in compromised skin, however, blindness is usually irreversible.

This is why it is important to choose an EXPERIENCED MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL.

Do cheek fillers get rid of tear troughs?

Sometimes a lack of volume in the mid-cheek can exacerbate the hollowing under the eyes.

By rejuvenating the mid-cheek area, you may indirectly improve the appearance of tired looking eyes.

Can I have fillers whilst pregnant?

Unfortunately, you can't have any filler or Botox whilst pregnant or breast feeding. There aren't any studies showing it's harmful, but who would willingly sign up to one of them anyway? Enjoy your time off with your new family addition and we'll be happy to see you back in clinic later on.

Who can perform filler injections?

Although it is not against the law in England for anyone to buy and inject filler, we strongly believe that aesthetic procedures should only be carried out by a registered medical professional. This is because 1 day courses simply are not enough to learn the anatomy, safe and sterile techniques, and medical knowledge required to recognise complications early and treat them.

All our treatments are carried out by fully qualified, registered and insured Doctors.
